Контроль і перевірка навченості англійської мови випускників шкіл (формат ЗНО)

    PET додає упевненості в  своїх силах і  допомагає підвищити свою кваліфікацію для ухвалення участі в  складнішому іспиті First Certificate in English (FCE). Здача PET – також  відмінна практика перед ЗНО, який трохи складніше за рівнем. Екзаменаційні матеріали PET максимально відповідають інтересам представників різних вікових груп, що підвищує мотивацію до  вивчення мови. PET – відмінний іспит для випускників шкіл або мовних курсів, які не планують пов'язувати своє майбутнє з  вивченням англійської мови.

    Цей тест відповідає рівню B1 загальноєвропейської шкали (Intermediate). На  даному рівні кандидат повинен уміти: розуміти основний зміст чітких вказівок, публічних повідомлень; спілкуватися в  ситуаціях, які виникають в більшості випадків під час туристичної поїздки в  англомовну країну; розуміти головне в  звичайній розмові на  такі знайомі теми, як робота, школа, хобі, і  т.п.; ставити прості питання і  брати участь у  розмовах в  робочих ситуаціях; висловлюватися просто і  зв'язно на знайомі теми і  з приводу особистих інтересів; писати листи, складати записки на  знайомі теми.

    PET складається з трьох частин, які називаються «papers»:

    Reading and Writing (Читання і  Письмо). Завдання перевіряють розуміння простої письмової інформації у брошурах, газетах і  журналах, а також уміння користуватися різними словами і  структурами при написанні повідомлень або листів з 100 слів.

    Listening (Аудіювання). Передбачають розуміння оголошень, інтерв'ю і  обговорення різної тематики, що не  вимагає спеціальних знань. Потрібно також показати уміння розуміти настрій і  наміри співрозмовників.

    Speaking (Усна мова). В ході іспиту кандидат бере участь у  бесіді, ставлячи питання своєму співрозмовникові і  відповідаючи на  його/її питання, вільно висловлюючи свою думку. Ця частина здається або в  парі з  іншим кандидатом, або в  групі з  трьох чоловік.

    Підсумковий бал, який кандидат отримує після складання іспиту, є сумою балів з усіх трьох тестів (Reading/Writing, Listening and Speaking). Оцінка за Reading and Writing складає 50% тесту, Listening і Speaking  по 25%.

    Для того, щоб отримати оцінку «Pass» («Добре»), потрібно набрати 70% від  максимально можливої суми балів. Для отримання оцінки «Pass with Merit» («Відмінно») потрібно 85% балів і  вище.

    Кандидати, що успішно склали іспит, отримують  наступні оцінки:

    Pass with merit (85-100%)

    Pass (70-84%)

    Level A2 (45-69%)

    Кандидати, що не  склали іспит, отримують наступну оцінку:

    Fail (0-44%)

Hidden Treasure

    If, like me, your vision of the perfect Caribbean holiday involves muscovado sand beaches, blissfully warm azure sea and a constant supply of rum-based cocktails, then Antigua won't disappoint. The island has 365 palm-fringed beaches - one for every day of the year, as Antiguans will tell you - great food and wonderful, open-hearted people. It also has some top accommodation options, including the luxurious St James's Club. Moving from my perfectly positioned lounger was always going to be a challenge. My husband, however, had other ideas. He'd hired a jeep and was determined to explore. Lured by the prospect of a picnic lunch in a deserted cove, I agreed to join him, and I'm very glad I did. The island has a host of unexpected treasures. At picturesque English Harbour we explored historical Nelson's Boatyard, and bought a bag of 'black gold' -nothing to do with pirates, but the sweetest pineapple I've ever tasted. Along the way we saw pastel-coloured houses, Eric Clapton's villa, kids playing barefoot cricket -Antigua is home to Sir Viv Richards - and more great beaches. Our four-year-old daughter was entranced to see real bananas growing on trees and whole families of goats and chickens trying to cross the road. For an outstanding view of the island, I heard the best place is Shirley Heights. On a Sunday afternoon this is the place to be for 'jump-up' - a traditional Caribbean party involving barbecued food, cold beer, steel band music and endless dancing. There are plenty of boat trips on offer in Antigua and it's definitely well worth taking a catamaran cruise to the nearby island of Barbuda - home to the famous К Club resort, a spot much favoured by celebrities, including late Princess Diana. With barely anyone else in sight, even the sand at the resort feels exclusive.

    Close to Barbuda, and only accessible by boat, is a sanctuary for the magnificent frigate bird. The males have bizarre large red balloons beneath their beaks, which they plump up during the mating season to attract females.

    Back on land we made the bone-rattling journey to Brown's Bay on the east side of the island for an exquisite dinner at the upmarket B&B Harmony Hall. Not only does the place offer local arts and crafts and a stunning view of uninhabited Green Island (brilliant snorkelling) but it also serves the best daiquiris ever. Bliss.
