The University

Chita State University was established in 1974. Nowadays it is one of the largest universities in the region of Transbaikalie. Specialists for major branches of industry and services in demand are trained there. The University has won a high reputation as a respectable educational agency training well-qualified specialists possessing both knowledge of theory and practical skills.

The University comprises eight schools: the School of Mining, the School of Power Engineering, the School of Construction and Ecology, the School of Law, the School of Social and Political Systems, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Technological and Transportation Systems, and the School of Adult Education and Refresher Courses.  

The overall number of ChSU alumni over more than 30 years' activity is about 20 thousand. Our graduates easily adapt themselves to labor market demand changes and rise in the world as is proved by the high level of their employment. They work in the different regions of Russia. There are heads of large enterprises and companies, academicians and corresponding fellows of academies among them.  

Scientific Potential

ChSU has three specialized Academic Councils for the Ph.D. Dissertations and Doctoral Dissertations Defending. Among the researches that have been carried out at the University some have been conducted by foreign researchers.

The staff of the University carries out many scientific researches in 22 fields. The Scientific and Innovation Activity Council supervises all the researches that have been undertaken. Many specialized scientific laboratories, centers and divisions are based on the departments and schools of the University. ChSU is the leading executive of a number of scientific and technological regional and local programs. The scientific staff of the University takes an active part in many conferences, scientific societies and organizations both in Russia and abroad. The scientific research schools that have been formed on the basis of the University are known world-wide.  

New Technologies and Opportunities, IT Training

The University has all the necessary facilities and hardware required for training specialists in Computer Science, IT, etc. There is a Free Internet Access Center at the ChSU. The intranet of the University contributes to the formation of a single informational and educational area. In addition, the Courseware Development Program (online and CD tutorials) has been put into practice.

Chita State University serves as the base for an ECDL (European Computer Driving License) Test Center, which is the only regional center in the Chita Region. The ECDL certificate defines and proves the level of your computer skills. It is acknowledged in 137 countries of the world.

Huge work has been done on generating Chita Virtual University, forming a step forward to the development of a Web-Based Education System for the region. The University regularly conducts Days of Computer Knowledge - "Intel" - where anyone can learn new skills and broaden their outlook in IT, try themselves in different tests, etc.

Since 2004 our students have enjoyed a possibility that is unique for our region. Since that time ChSU students can be issued a Diploma Supplement - a European standard supplement to a diploma. It gives our graduates the opportunity to be employed both in Russia and abroad.  

Facilities

Chita State University comprises eight educational buildings, each of which has a catering facility. It also has three dormitories, a health unit, a recreation department on the shores of lake Arahley and a preventorium.

Chita State University has a significant library. The library stock comprises textbooks, teachers' guides and instructional literature, scientific literature, fiction and periodicals. The library staff serves over 15,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, teachers and other University staff.

The Publishing Complex of ChSU publishes thousands of sheets of printed material per year: including textbooks, scientific journals and periodicals, brochures and booklets.  

Students' Life

The student self-government of ChSU works actively. It includes the students' union, students' councils, summer work brigades and groups of voluntary servants, a group of public order preservation and some others. Each school of the University publishes its own newspaper. Students' extracurricular activity is highly developed as well. The University boasts ChSU History Museum, which was established in 1999 - the 25th anniversary of the University.
